Afilias to provide registry services for .aero

GENEVA, Switzerland – January 11, 2006 – SITA SC, the only global communication services integrator dedicated to the travel and transportation industry (TTI), today announced that it has signed an agreement with Afilias who will provide registry services for .aero, the top level domain (TLD) of the aviation industry.

The agreement was signed following a thorough application process in which a Request for Proposal (RFP) was issued by SITA SC, and where Afilias proved to be the registry operator best suited to provide registry services to the .aero

December 1st - Deadline for airports to register IATA codes on .aero

GENEVA - 4 November 2008 - SITA today issued a reminder that December 1, 2008 is the cut-off date for airports wishing to register their three letter IATA airport codes with .aero, the SITA-sponsored internet domain for the air transport industry.

From December 1, these unique IATA location identifiers will no longer be reserved exclusively for airports but will be available for registration to any qualifying organization or individual, on a first-come-first-served basis and through accredited registrars.

GAMA announces launch of "www.GAMA.aero"

WASHINGTON, DC, The General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) announced today the launch of its new website utilizing the .AERO domain. The new site, www.GAMA.aero, is one of the first in the world to use the Internet domain name dedicated to a specific industry and is exclusively reserved for aviation and aerospace-related entities and individuals.

The site has several tools that will facilitate information sharing and collaboration among GAMA's committees and its member companies in an easy to use and fast format.

New policy draft for .aero from the world's air sports federation

It's not only large jets that are flying high. Individuals and organizations working in the burgeoning recreational aviation sector are also valuable members of the aviation community.

Founded at the dawn of aviation history in 1905, the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) is today a non-governmental and non-profit making international organization with some 100 member countries. Its aim is to further aeronautical and astronautical activities worldwide.

New registry operator sought for .aero TLD

Geneva, Switzerland – July 6, 2005 – Three years after the introduction of .aero, a sponsored top-level domain reserved exclusively for the world's aviation community, and in view of the approaching completion of the agreement with the current registry operator agreement, SITA SC, the sponsor of .aero, is seeking a new registry operator.

The current .aero registry operator agreement between SITA SC and SITA INC B.V. will expire on December 16, 2005.

New, improved registration service launched for .aero domain names

.aero domain registrars can offer to their .aero customers a one stop shop for registration of .aero domain names.

On October 7, 2006 .aero the top level domain of aviation, will launch a new one step registration process for .aero domain names.

In the past, all customers had to pass a .aero eligibility verification process concluded by the issue of Membership ID from SITA before proceeding to register .aero domain names with a .aero registrar.

Registry does not support "front running"

Concerns have been raised in recent months over a new phenomenon known as "domain name front running".

This occurs when someone conducts a search for a domain name and, shortly thereafter, someone else (a "front runner"), using information obtained during the search, pre-emptively registers the name. This action prevents domain names from being registered by those who were originally interested.

Reservation of airport codes extended until February 2004

Following the recommendation of the Dot Aero Council on October 16, 2003, SITA has decided that the current reservation of IATA location codes for airports will remain unchanged until February 2004.

SITA announces new additions to list of reserved domain names and confirms suspension of domain registrations in most sub-domains

Following the recent recommendation of the Dot Aero Council (DAC), SITA has reserved names of states, provinces and geographical areas removing the option of permitting reservation of a domain name matching the name of a state, province or geographical area in the .aero domain.

These new reserved names join the existing reservation of country names.

Names that were already registered at the time of  this new policy will become automatically reserved, once not renewed or deleted by the current registrant.
